How pricing works
Color grading is priced based on time, complexity, and scope.
Every project is quoted individually after reviewing runtime, cameras, creative intent, and delivery requirements. This ensures accurate scheduling, realistic timelines, and fair pricing for both sides.
Day rate
Color grading day rate: £500
One grading day covers up to 8 hours of dedicated grading time and includes:
One full creative pass
Shot matching and consistency
One review session
Two rounds of consolidated notes (up to V3)
A half day option may be offered for smaller or limited scope projects, subject to availability.
Project quotes
Rather than billing open ended time, projects are quoted as a fixed fee based on the estimated number of grading days required.
Estimates are calculated using:
Total runtime
Project type (commercial, music video, documentary, narrative)
Creative complexity and look development
Number of cameras and formats
Deadline and review layers
You will receive a clear quote outlining the number of days allocated and the total project fee.
If scope changes, timelines or costs are adjusted transparently before proceeding.
Revisions and scope changes
All projects include:
One primary grading pass
Two rounds of revisions based on consolidated client notes (up to V3)
Additional revision days are billed at 50% of the day rate.
The following are considered scope changes and may require additional grading days:
New edits or re cuts
Additional shots or VFX plates
Significant creative direction changes after approval
New deliverables beyond the original brief
Additional fees
Where applicable, the following may apply:
Rush turnaround (24–48 hours): +30–40%
Weekend or out of hours sessions: +50%
Supervised remote grading sessions: billed as half day or full day
HDR grading or additional color spaces: quoted separately
Additional deliverables or formats beyond initial agreement
All additional costs are discussed and approved in advance.
Additional Post Production Services
In addition to color grading, The Palette also provides a range of post production services offered on a time based or project basis, depending on scope.
These may include:
Post production supervision
Conform and online finishing
Data wrangling and media preparation
Editorial support and online edits
Look development and color pipeline consulting
Technical QC and delivery preparation
All additional services are quoted separately based on time, complexity, and delivery requirements. Availability is subject to scheduling, and not all services are offered on every project.
If you are unsure whether a service is required, this can be discussed during the quoting stage.
